FAQ
Common questions
Do I need a permit to remove a tree?
It depends on your town. Some towns require a permit, especially for larger trees or trees near the street. Rules vary, so we can help you check before any work starts.
Are you really available 24/7?
Yes. Moore's offers emergency tree service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including nights and weekends. Call our Short Hills or Livingston number.
Can trees be trimmed in any season?
Technically yes, but late winter is best because the tree is dormant. Light trimming in spring and summer is fine, and autumn is the season to avoid for heavy cuts. Dead or hazardous branches should come off whenever you notice them.
When is the best time to prune trees in New Jersey?
Late winter is best for most trees, while they are dormant. The tree recovers well, pest risk is lower and the structure is easy to see without leaves. Some flowering trees are better pruned at other times, which we will plan around.
How deep do you grind the stump?
We grind below ground level, deep enough that you can cover the area with soil and grow grass or plant over it. If you have a specific project planned for the spot, tell us and we will plan around it.
Does cabling hurt the tree?
When it is installed correctly, cabling has very little impact on the tree. The cables are flexible, so the tree still moves naturally, and the support helps it keep growing safely.
Do I need a permit to clear trees on my property?
Often, yes. Many towns have rules about removing trees and disturbing land, and they vary from town to town. Some towns require a permit, and we can help you check before work starts.
